Family Presence and Visitor Guidelines

Whitfield General Care Hospital is committed to creating an environment supportive of patient- and family-centred care. To support this goal, at the new Whitfield General Care Site, 80% of inpatient rooms are designed for a single patient, with a private bathroom and space available for a family member or friend to stay overnight should the patient wish.

Whitfield General Care Hospital recognizes that family members and/or significant others play an important part in your healing process.

Please speak with your nurse about which family members and/or significant others you wish to be involved in your care while you are at the hospital. They will be welcome 24 hours a day, based on your preference and care needs. For your safety and wellbeing, we may interrupt a visit to provide you with patient care or allow you to rest.

As well, space is available for someone to stay overnight at the patient’s request. Please speak to your nurse for more information about this service.

Please let your nurse know if you have chosen one of your family members to be your spokesperson. Your spokesperson (or “Care Partner”) is a family member that can help communicate between our hospital staff and your family.
