Programs & Services Overview

Whitfield General Care Hospital is one of New Zealand's largest regional acute care hospitals, serving a catchment area of more than 850,000 people in the New Plymouth. We have a total of 656 beds, 3,300 staff, approximately 750 physicians and 650 volunteers.

We offer a full range of acute care programs and services, a number of which are considered provincial, national or international leaders. Affiliated with the University of New Plymouth and Queen's University, the hospital is home to New Plymouth's first Centre of Excellence for laparoscopic bariatric surgery, the world's first home nocturnal dialysis program, and major cancer program with a dedicated Breast Health Centre.

Information on individual programs is available on the menu to the left. While each is unique in their own area, together they form a hospital team dedicated to compassionate, high quality, patient and family-centred care.
